Building a legacy in the West Country

Since 1992, Devonshire Homes has been devoted to building beautiful homes across the West Country.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of London & Devonshire Trust Ltd., Devonshire Homes boasts a gorgeous portfolio of builds across the Southwest, including Ilfracombe, Bideford, and Wincanton, to name a few, with new developments coming to Penzance soon.

We recently got in touch with Nigel Bowditch, responsible for Devonshire Homes’ commercial planning, to get his thoughts on how their partnership with Smas Worksafe has improved their compliance and efficiency.

“Commercial planning means I’m responsible for budgeting, procurement of materials, and subcontractor appointments for current and future developments,” Nigel writes.

Strengthening safety and supply chain confidence

“The safety of our employees, contractors and site visitors is important to Devonshire Homes, as building sites can be a dangerous environment with a lot of hazards. In compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, we chose to partner with Smas Worksafe in 2023 as they’ve been established since 2006 and have experience in helping to administer our supply chain management.”

In April 2024, the Devonshire Homes team moved out of their office at Lowman Green and over to Gotham House, a Grade II listed building, to accommodate their increasing growth. This has allowed them to take on new projects, and open up new roles, like in February 2025 when they introduced Kelly Penna as their new Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager.
