We’re excited to announce the introduction of Endorsement Modules to our Worksafe Plus certification.
These three new additions, covering ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and Strands A and B of the Building Safety Act 2022, help contractors go above and beyond the typical requirements of Worksafe Plus certification.
Included as standard with every Worksafe Plus package, Endorsements are modules that give contractors a structured way to demonstrate alignment with some of the most important frameworks shaping the construction industry right now.
Let’s take a closer look at what these modules look like in practice.
Why have we included it?
ESG refers to the steps businesses take to demonstrate effective environmental, social,
and governance practices. It involves not only limiting their negative impact, but also active efforts to give back to their employees and local communities.
This module can be achieved individually.
What does the module cover?
Our Endorsement includes questions on environmental management, carbon footprint, responsible sourcing, labour standards, wellbeing, ethics, and transparency, with expectations adjusted for company size (turnover) and role in the construction supply chain.
In order to make the Endorsement as beneficial to contractors as possible, we’ve designed it to be aligned with and informed by essential government and international frameworks, like:
Why have we included it?
In the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017, the Building Safety Act was formally introduced in 2022 to change how safety is managed in buildings – with an emphasis on higher-risk buildings – throughout throughout their lifecycle.
The Act places clear duties on everyone involved in a project, from clients and designers through to principal contractors and subcontractors. This helps to build a clear chain of information and evidence-backed decision making that will help with maintenance and safeguarding the building’s residents in the future.
This module can be achieved individually.
What does the module cover?
BSA-A focuses on the core expectations of the Act for duty-holders involved in the design and construction. Using the competence themes of BS 8670-1, it supports the practical management of safety, information, and accountability across the project lifecycle, where works fall under Building Regulations, with role-specific relevance to BSA duty-holders.
Why have we included it?
Whilst the Building Safety Act has areas applicable for all residential buildings, the BSA-B module focuses even more on higher-risk buildings and the unique dangers they face.
This module is only available alongside BSA-A.
What does the module cover?
BSA-B focuses on ensuring duty-holder competence and implementing stricter design and construction controls. It also covers effectively managing and sharing safety information related to fire and structural safety risks.
It’s aligned with the specifications of PAS 8671 and PAS 8672 (for principal designers and principal contractors).
At Smas, we have three certification packages, designed to help contractors achieve the best possible standards of risk management and Health & Safety.
We made the decision to add our Endorsement modules to Worksafe Plus to help contractors achieve higher levels of safety, without bridging into public sector compliance – especially regarding the Building Safety Act 2022.
We’re on a mission to boost risk management standards for all contractors across the UK. If you have any questions about Worksafe Plus or our additional Endorsement modules, get in touch today on 01752 697370 or email [email protected]
