Did you know you could be getting help with the cost of training your employees? Grants are provided for employers in the construction industry to train their workers, helping to maintain health and safety standards on construction sites. We’ve put together this handy article to explain how it works.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) pays grants for the achievement of approved short duration courses – this includes the Site Supervision Training Scheme (SSSTS) and SSSTS Refresher.
The Grants Scheme is funded by Industry through the CITB Levy and aims to ensure these funds are invested in core construction skills to meet Industry needs.
You can claim grants if you are an employer registered with CITB and send a Levy Return to CITB by 30 November each year. Small employers that don’t need to pay the levy can still claim grants.
Providing the person is working for you at the time of their training, you can apply for grants for SSSTS courses undertaken by:
The CITB levy is split into a tier system based on the level of the course. See the below discounts for reference:
So, an SSSTS course would cost you £210:
Cost of course (£280) – CITB discount (£70) = £210.
An SSSTS Refresher course would cost you £134.99
Cost of course (£169.99) – CITB discount (£35) = £134.99
As your training provider, we can complete a grant application on your behalf. Simply book your employee onto the required course and upon payment, submit your CITB registration number to us or your delegate’s learning number and as an approved training organisation, we’ll submit the paperwork.
Grants are paid directly by the CITB to your organisation via bank transfer so you will want to make sure you’ve provided them with the correct bank details – you can do this through their online form
