POW Case Study
POW Architects based in Canterbury Road, London, have recently applied for and have been successfully awarded the SMAS Worksafe certificate demonstrating the ability to design elegant spaces with safety in mind.
As a RIBA charted practise POW’s Architects embrace each project, consciously thinking about elements of compliance such as Quality Management systems, Insurances and of course Health and Safety. In doing so POW offer its clients peace of mind knowing that each space is created for the prosperity, comfort and safety of those who live or work there.
“We have applied for SMAS for a number of reasons, the most important of which is putting a framework in place within our company against which we can self-reflect and measure our own H&S performance.”
With instrumental involvement with both commercial and domestic projects POW understand that safety comes first and by thinking about Health and Safety from conception stage they can think about the construction materials, methods and how all personnel can work as safely as possible during the construction phases.
Working with prestigious clients such as Carillion, London Transport, Bouygues and Crest Nicolson, POW Architect’s internal systems and procedures reflect the demand for accuracy and clarity when it comes to Health and Safety during the design stage.
Over the last 8 years, the POW team of 7 highly talented and academically decorated professionals have successfully delivered projects of all sizes, from one off private client commissions right up to multi-story, multi-core residential blocks of 250+ units.
Mark Owen, founder and director of Pow Architects recently tweeted during the assessment stage commenting on the application process.
The SMAS Worksafe assessment has a lead time of just 3-5 working days once submitted and any clarifications or questions raised will be directed to the applicant.
SMAS assessors are all based in-house and we pride ourselves on being approachable throughout the assessment process.
“SMAS is the system which will ensure that we continue to audit ourselves and keep our proverbial pencil sharp. We are also keen to meet the H&S requirements of some of our clients, most notably Redrow Homes who fly the SMAS flag and require all consultants to be SMAS accredited. Making H&S something that has to be demonstrated by designer’s pre-appointment is a commendable approach”
Gareth Pywell, Director.
