What is CITB?
CITB stands for the ‘Construction Industry Training Board’. This is the UK’s official, industry-led organisation, which is responsible for making sure that the construction industry is filled with skilled, qualified, and safe workers who follow best practices when on-site.
Beyond CITB’s meaning, the organisation also designs industry-recognised training standards and assessments that provide workers with the knowledge and skills required to carry out their jobs securely.

How is the online course different from classroom-based training?
The CITB online course provided by Smas Worksafe is delivered via an online video meeting app. But don’t worry: applicants will still receive training from a CITB-qualified instructor, the course will cover the same topics as the classroom course, and you’ll receive the same certificate upon completion, just without the added hassle of travelling to and from a physical classroom.

Is there funding available for CITB training online?
Did you know you could get help with the cost of training your employees? Grants are provided for employers in the construction industry to train their workers, helping to maintain Health & Safety standards across construction sites.
What is the CITB Grants Scheme?
The CITB offers grants for approved short-duration courses — including the Site Supervision Training Scheme (SSSTS) and SSSTS Refresher, Site Manager Safety Training (SMSTS) and Health & Safety Awareness (HSA).
The Grants Scheme is funded by the CITB Levy and aims to make sure these funds are invested in core construction skills to meet Industry needs.
You can apply for your grant using their online form.
Who can claim this grant?
You can claim grants if you’re an employer registered with CITB and send a Levy Return to the CITB by 30 November each year. Small employers that don’t need to pay the levy can still claim a grant.
As long as the learner works for you at the time of their training, you can apply for grants for SSSTS and SMSTS courses undertaken by directly-employed staff and subcontractors.

All of our CITB certificates are valid for five years after the successful completion of your assessment. Once those five years have passed, you’ll need to complete the refresher course to reactivate your certificate.
